Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie

Number of Pages: 184
Publisher: Anchor Books
Date Of Original Publication: 2000
ISBN #: 0-375-41309-X

Hey everyone! Sorry I have not posted in a while! I have been incredibly busy with graduating, working three jobs and moving into a new apartment and now my father is in the hospital. Just been an absolutely crazy time of year! I hope everyone else has been doing well.

To be honest with you I don’t remember much about this book. But I can tell you that I didn’t really enjoy it and I probably wouldn’t recommend it.

Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress is a short novel by Dai Sijie that covers the life of a boy who gets sent off to a Re-Education camp that was instilled upon by the Chinese government. The purpose of re-education is to make the country more industrial rather than book smart.

Like always a girl, the little Chinese seamstress comes into it and two boys fall for her and what not. I just felt like it was really hokey and that it could’ve been written better.

That’s all I have for this one. Sorry not one of my better reports, it’s been two long (finished it in May), Just wanted to give you this quick one so you didn’t think I died or something.

I would rate this book a 2 out of 5 for a low developed story line and a cheesy premise.

I will try and get my next book review up as soon as possible. Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns for me, let me know, or just simply want to talk to me. I will do book requests. You can send me a message to me on here or E-Mail me at: TeamBellisle@yahoo.com

Divided Minds by Carolyn & Pamela Spiro

Number of Pages: 318
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Date Of Original Publication: 2005
ISBN #:0-312-32064-7

Hey everyone first book review here, hope you enjoy it. I just finished this non-fiction novel, which is rare for me, It’s called Divided Minds: Twin Sisters and Their Journey Through Schizophrenia. I read it for my AP Psychology class, it’s a very interesting read and fast paced.

The novel focus’s on two twins: Pamela and Carolyn and their lives as Pamela has Schizophrenia. The novel starts when they were kids and continues through the years until 2004.

I liked the book mainly for the twin affect. I have always admired twins and the their ability to know each other from the inside out. This novel shows how deep twin bonds can be deeply affected by mental illnesses and other factors of life, as well as the sides of twins that us outsiders normally don’t see: Twin Rivalry.

I would recommend this memoir to anyone who admires psychology, twins, or just the schizophrenia factor. It is an easy read and it is well organized. The only thing that I did not like about this book is the odd transitions. Sometimes it is hard to understand what is being illustrated, for example: What’s being said by Pamela, thought by Pamela, or seen by Pamela through the schizophrenia, other then that I think this novel is definitely a good read. Check it out! I did from the local library! ;)

5 out of 5 for pure entertainment and the fast paced scenes!

Introduction

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and I know absolutely no one. I do hope you will be patient with me. I am a young ambitious person who hopes to become a book editor one day. I love books and I love reviewing them. I may not get on often but I do check my email often.
My favorite book series is the Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian.
I mainly read fiction novels but every once in a while I will add in some non fiction.
I will not tell you my age because my age is irrelevant.
I will tell you a few basic facts though: I live in St. Paul, Minnesota. I have a girlfriend (going on 8 months) and a lot of animals! I'm quiet and dark but I am talkative at the same time. I hope to get to know new people on here and read some good books to review!
